Background and urgency
The world is confronted by complex societal problems, such as social inequality, environmental pollution, resource depletion, climate change, loss of biodiversity and food waste. Many of these problems grow exponentially and some irreversible ecological tipping points have already been reached. If we don't change our current way of living, we will need two Earths to meet our consumption demands by the year 2050. In order to meet these challenges, the UN formulated the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which is the first internationally accepted framework for sustainability that includes all stakeholders in society and the economy.
A future-oriented way of economic thinking
In order to achieve these goals, we need to develop new ideas and mindsets underlying our management of the economy. The conventional way of economic thinking assumes:
- 'Value extraction' instead of 'value creation'. Business and society are often seen as two separate domains without any interdependence.
- Nature and mankind are seen as a 'resource' and not as an indispensable condition or source for our prosperity and well-being.
We develop and offer the education in which managers and leaders can develop new mindsets and competences for sustainable leadership and entrepreneurship. In these mindsets, business and society are seen as an interdependent system of mutual value creation, which respects natural boundaries and helps preserve (and restore) ecological resilience and human flourishing.
Vision for a sustainable world
The private sector has the resources, networks and creativity to tackle our global challenges. Through the development of sustainable leadership, organizations and businesses can have a positive impact on people, the market and society. Flow Impact Fund supports and provides tools for organizations to transform their leadership into sustainable leadership. In this way the vicious circle of value extraction and destruction by over-consumption/over-production can be reversed. This is our answer to the how of the desired change towards sustainability.
Who is behind Flow Impact Fund?
Mr. Sander Tideman
'An organization is like a living creature. Besides efficiency it also needs connection to its context, vision, resilience and a sense of purpose. With this an organization creates shared value for all associates, including its so-called 'external' stakeholders. This process starts with sustainable leadership.'

'I am a Cultural Anthropologist, focused on sustainable development and global economy. I dedicated myself to a topic that is close to my heart: how international institutions and businesses influence the way people deal with or respond to issues of poverty and development and economic security. I focus on the meaning and value that people give to these topics, with an understanding of their local cultures within a globalizing world.'
